Each time a prominent awards ceremony draws close, one notices an outcry for introducing of new categories to recognize underappreciated efforts and fill the passions of followers with niche passions.
My colleague has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. The same goes for strategy board titles, representing a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward since similar to blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification for why my demand is the most urgent and important of all. Here's the proposal: There should be an award type for logic-based games.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why film award organizations don’t do it. Yet it remains an essential concession in the world of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute one unified medium.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.
Present Award Structure
Leading game ceremonies offer these award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these classifications actually cover numerous genres, making space possible accommodating various experiences.
This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Think about these this year’s best games, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. Which classification works between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.
Recognition Challenges
Many instances occur outstanding logic titles released every year that have no home during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested Indie races.
- An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition completely in 2014
- A different innovative game received no nominations in 2019
- A beloved organization game got ignored that year
- Limited numbers of brain-teasers scraped into independent or mobile categories
Significance of Puzzle Games
Commonly they're modest productions, but the art in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most popular titles worldwide maintaining this status for many years.
The iconic tile-matching title rivals popular creative games competing to become highest-selling title ever; it also contends for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. One could readily select multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.
Restating the point, these include experiences without proper classification in important events. Brain-teaser creators operate at the demanding boundary interactive creation, producing among most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Comparable to film action specialists, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
